Summary/Abstract: Vitamin C – L-ascorbic acid is one of the basic antioxidants. Because of its diverse functions, this acid is indispensable to the organism. It is a key factor in regenerating and maintaining health. While the most of the organisms are able to synthesize L-ascorbic acid, the human being lacks the major enzyme L-gulonolactone oxidase, the crucial enyme for synthesis of L-ascorbic acid. The body can store vitamin C only in a very small amounts, so it must be supplemented to our body several times a day.
