Summary/Abstract: Eminescu’s reception has been passing through a whole series of metamorphoses, between the pole of mythicization and the pole of denigration. Built in a framework of an a priori superlative reception, the Eminescu Myth has been perpetuated and developed from one generation to another. The poet’s contestation, started by his detractors in his lifetime, has generated a parallel process of demythicization and denial. In the mythicization-demythicization report, the apologetic excess generates, dialectically, the opposite reaction. Eminescu’s reception must be a substantial one, emancipated by extremisms, either encomiastical or nihilist, through the attendance of his work, through the development of Eminescu’s studies and of Eminescology as a whole. The printing of Eminescu’s manuscripts and new biographical contributions are recent achievements which participate in this necessary process for Romanian culture.
