Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the position of African countries in the international relations at the beginning of the 21st century, referring to both (northern and southern) parts of the continent. The participation of Africa in the international economic relations, challenges related to the level of economic and social development of the states, the widespread phenomenon of collapsing states, the level of regional and subregional integration as well as the interest and involvement of external entities in the region were considered as the most important factors shaping this position in the selected period. These determinants are also closely related to each other.
