The cult of the image of the Mother of God in the XVII-XIX centuries

Summary/Abstract: This is the purpose of this article is the worship of the painting of the Virgin Mary during the history of the sanctuary at Studzianna from the beginning, that is to say from the second half of the seventeenth century until at the end of the 19th century. For almost two hundred years the sanctuary lived the great development which was visible in many pilgrimages. In these pilgrimages took place kings and nobles, clergy and people, to pray the graces at the feet of the Holy Family of Nazaret. First of all, the history of Studzianna and that of the painting "Jesus, Virgin Mary and St Joseph" were presented until 1671, that is to say, until the proclamation of the decree in which recognized this painting as miraculous. In the article we have presented the geographical location of Studzianna, these owners, the history of the painting, the beginning of worship and we discussed the problem about the title of the painting. Then we presented the manifestations of the worship of the painting, as well as the effects of the work of the primate commission. The work ended with the publication of the decree already mentioned and its analysis. Miracles and graces, pilgrimages, votive offerings and other elements testifying to the cult of the painting have been characterized.
