Theory of biblical translation in terms of contemporary translators of the Bible into Polish

Summary/Abstract: The author presents the principles used by Polish biblical scholars of the 20th century in their translations of Sacred Scripture. In this presentation it is based on their own statements. It turns out that Polish biblical writers make their translations from the original languages except Brother A. Symon before the Second World War and E. Dabrowski after this war broke with the tradition of the 16th century by Jakub Wujek with the exception by E. Dabrowski or with the Gdañsk Bible. They use simple, comprehensible language (Karalski, Romaniuk). Wherever possible, it retains the stylistic features of the original text (Szczepañski, Klawek) and translates Semitism in accordance with the spirit of the Polish language without harming the climate of the work (Szczepañski, Bible of the Chillenarian, Bible from Poznań). Finally they strive to render rather faithfully the spirit of the inspired author than his words (Br. A. Symon, Szczepanski, Klawek, F. Gryglewicz, S. Karalski, Bible of Chillenium, Poznań, or Bible British and Foreign Bible Society, K. Romaniuk).
