Summary/Abstract: Given the harmonization of Romanian legislation with the European law, in the context of Romania’s integration in the EU and, consequently, the transposition of EU directives in effect into domestic law, to ensure free and effective access to justice, Romania has passed the Directive 2003/8/EC concerning the development of access to justice in international matters. Thus, Romania, as a guarantor of rights and freedoms of citizens, applying the democratic principles governing rule of law, ensured, in certain cases, from public financial resources, effective access to justice to all citizens of the Member States, creating internal conditions that do not appear discriminatory between its citizens and EU citizens. In civil matters, free access to justice concerns actions where free legal assistance is requested, either in court or before other public authorities.
