Summary/Abstract: Higher education is one of the most important areas in the development of eachcountry, both in terms of human capital development and in economic terms (e.g. GDP growth). The article focuses on the problems faced by managers of private universities. The theoretical part presents the nature of economic activity and methods of assessing the levelof profitability in the activities of economic entities. The empirical part f the work focuses on the analyses conducted by the Department of Financial Controlling of a private university in the area of the level of its profitability. The results of analyses clearly show that a key source of funding of the studied institutionis the revenue from tuition fees, brought by part-time students in particular, which makes it possible to fund and implement the mission and vision of the University, cover the deficitactivity of full time programs of study and develop financial surplus which is the source for investment and development of the institution.
