Summary/Abstract: The year 1989 triggered Romania’s absolution from communism. Thus, the situation started to change regarding Romanian-Russian relations when Russia became smaller and Romania had the chance to take another path following, step by step, the Western values and democracy. Meanwhile, up to the present moment, there have been a lot of changes in their bilateral relations that oscillated between cooperation and confrontation, a lot of these changes mainly resulting from two factors: Romania’s embracing Euro-Atlantic structures, policies, and modus vivendi and Russia’s aggressive policy in its neighborhood. As a direct consequence, twenty years after USSR’s dissolution, Romanian-Russian relations have generally consisted of a sort of oscillation between tension and negative passiveness based on the difficult historic heritage. This article will present a few key moments and their consequences upon the political military Romanian-Russian relations.
