Summary/Abstract: The fragment from Titus Suciu's novel "The Winner" debuts with a short dialogue in wartime; the main issues the excerpt deals with are peace, war and the presence and attitudes of young soldiers in special situations. The first person narrations allows a deeper and more accurate insight into a traumatic type of experience. The second part dwells upon the human side of a strong general, viewing his personal tragedy along with that of his combatants. The colourful appearance of a gypsy fortune-teller enlivens the picture, although adding a somber dimension to the vision of the future projected by the text. Dialogues are immersed into the main body text with skillful craftsmanship, contributing to the realisation of a complex and intriguing piece of writing.
