Summary/Abstract: The study aims to analyze relevant aspects of the preventive penal policy:definition, objectives, principles of the preventive penal policy, typologies of preventive action(general delinquency prevention and juvenile delinquency prevention, general prevention and special prevention, defensive prevention and emancipative prevention, social prevention and situational prevention). The study points out that defining the concept of preventive penal policy and evaluation of crime prevention must take into account three dimensions: the penal legislation in force on the system of sanctions against individual offenders; specialized institutions in crime prevention and social control; social reaction against crime and criminality; the preventive penal policy (prevention strategies, measures and techniques) can have a stronger impact (than the repressive penal policy) on the diminishing of the criminality phenomenon, as well a cost effective solution compared to overall cost of crime.
