Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between women’s empowerment and poverty, topics that are part of the UN Millennium Development Goals. An analysis of a sample of 36 low and middle income countries divided equally among 6 different regions shows that education and health are important factors in determining the level of development. Findings suggest that the implementation of certain types of programs empower women and gradually alleviate poverty.
