Summary/Abstract: The family, undoubtedly, is the smallest corner stone and the most important institution of the society. The family as an institution has many functions. The most considerable function of the family is to produce and reproduce new members of the society. The family through its educational and socializing functions makes the new born individuals members of the society to which they belong by transferring the norms, beliefs and values of the society to them. Presence of father and mother, their healthy connections with their children and providing children’s needs sufficiently are important for the future of children.In the same way, the guidance of the parents and their efforts for the child’s educational success helps the child to be a successful individual in the rest of his/her life. But, today, the increasing rate of breakup family units obstructs the family to perform these functions. This has negative effects on child’s school success by doing harm in his/her social, psychological and academic life. In this study it is aimed to observe the negative reflections of breakup family units on child’s educational life and to determine the reasons of this progress. The last grade students of secondary schools and high schools in Trabzon centre are the universe of the study. An opinion poll was carried out on 283 students from broken families and 283 students from united families, at total on 566 students for the study.
