Summary/Abstract: This paper delves into an analysis of archival sources in the State District Archives of Znojmo, relating to two former independent Jewish political communities, Šafov and Miroslav, which once existed in the area of the present-day district of Znojmo. Both communities were established in 1867; the Šafov community existed until 1919, the Miroslav community until 1924. In addition to a brief summary of the historical development of Jewish settlement in both places, the paper examines the state of archival sources relating to the two political communities. Aside from the primary source – i.e. the fonds of the political communities themselves – it also explores secondary sources of official provenance, such as the fonds of Christian communities, district offices, Jewish schools, and tax offices. In addition to analyzing the state of the archival sources, it also sets out the research possibilities that are provided by extant sources relating to each political community in the State District Archives in Znojmo.
