Summary/Abstract: The present study examines the freedom of expression in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, with reference to terrorist offenses, with the specific right to expression of the journalist, emphasizing the role of investigative journalism by attracting, in principle, a level particularly high protection, both against requests for disclosure of sources and against the challenges of slanderous processes. At the same time, it is stressed that investigative journalism can interfere with sensitive, classified materials that affect national and international security, which implies a high degree of professionalism and accountability. Last but not least, media experts have special responsibilities when addressing the issue of terrorism and have to take care of the judgments they make. The spread of public terror depends to a large extent on the images and messages transmitted through media reports. Even with objective reporting, this result may be inevitable, and sensational reporting can contribute to the goals of terrorists. People working in the media should be aware that terrorists are trying to use their channels to reach the widest possible audience and to have the strongest possible impact on the public.
