Summary/Abstract: In the age of economic liberalisation and integration of states, the role and definition of border is changing. What used to be a barrier in the past, is now weakening and becoming more permeable. While permeable borders mean heightened ease of interaction between states, they can also have some negative effects such as terrorism and illegal immigration. The aim of this article is to analyse the use of geographical information system (GIS) for creating spatial models of border permeability, which may help to solve the issues mentioned above.
