Summary/Abstract: While the basic purpose for teaching/learning a foreign language is the transmission/ acquisition of native-like communicative competence, the role of the social and cultural context of the target language cannot be neglected. Using appropriate tools, the literature class can turn into a memorable experience and also a powerful pedagogic tool in the learners' linguistic development. This article offers suggestions for the choice of relevant literary texts and a suitable approach, as well as a practical illustration which is based on the same literary context but two different methods.
