Summary/Abstract: The article shows the analysis of versatile activity of I. I. Yanzhul as a bright representative of the liberal intelligentsia in post-reform Russia. On the basis of memoirs literature, official documentary data and materials his role in realization of reform of the factory legislation in Russia 1882— 1917 and formation in the country of civil society becomes clear.
