Beauty Care in the Treaties of Metrodora from Byzantine and Trotula from Salerno

Summary/Abstract: The treaties “On the Disease and Cures of Women” of Metrodora and “De ornatu mulierum” of Trotula of Salerno are among the few works which were written by women in mediaeval times. They both focus on childbirth and women’s diseases, but they also contain some indications concerning ways of taking care of women’s beauty. Thanks to these works we know what kind of herbs and minerals were used in cosmetic treatments of that time.
