Summary/Abstract: The development of new technologies imposes the need for continuous professional training of teachers and development of their competence. Digital competence has become a key concept in the discussion of the skills needed for students in the knowledge society. A document issued by UNESCO under the title: ICT competence framework for teachers is given as a landmark for all EU countries to carry out the reform of education systems and synchronize learning outcomes in line with ICT development. Most of the developed countries in Europe believe that knowledge and possession of computer literacy skills and their use are necessary in all spheres of education, resulting in a great dependence of the society on the knowledge and competences of the person in the ICT field. The research was conducted in the area of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, with the aim of identifying the presence of information communication technologies in primary schools and analyzing the readiness and competence of teachers to use them in teaching the class courses. The survey sample consists of 200 teachers from 7 primary schools. The Liquert-type scale technique was used for data collection.Research findings have shown that there is progress in using ICT, but additional efforts and material investment in technology and teacher education need to be made to bring the school from the area of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton closer to European standards.
