Summary/Abstract: Since 1967, the pastoral care of Poles in East Berlin was taken by a Salesian from the Province of Cologne, Father Georg Broja from the Upper Silesia. As late as in 1987, the Salesians from the Province of Piła were appointed to work in the capital of the German Democratic Republic. They remained there until 2003. In 1981, Father Konstanty Goławski, a student from the Province of Warsaw, initiated in West Berlin pastoral care for Polish-speaking Catholics. On the 1st of January, 1997 its name was changed to the Polish Catholic Mission. Since 2003, four Polish Salesians have maintained themselves by holding three, full-time pastoral positions granted by the Curia of Berlin. On Sundays, the priests attend upon 4-5 thousand of people.
