Summary/Abstract: Drawing on the concept of intertextuality, the article offers the reading of Robert Macfarlane’s travel book Mountains of the Mind. It explores the process which frames the collective Western imagination of the mountainous landscape and uncovers the formation of a unique discourse. Finally, the intertextual methodology demonstrates how walking in the footsteps of mountaineers entangles the real-life experience with the literary.
