OPEN ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE: ACADEMIC PORTAL OF THE BOSNIAC INSTITUTE – ADIL ZULFIKARPASIC FOUNDATION

Summary/Abstract: Open Access is a global movement which provides free access to academic and scholarly content. Knowledge commercialization became everyday practice with development of IC technologies. The technologies provided online access to information, but right to konwledge became luxury only for countries with highly developed economy and advanced technological infrastructure. Libraries and information experts will have important role in this process, not only in archiving knowledge and knowledge management, but as advocates in providing free access to the konwledge. Development of databases and providing access to these repositories are common practice in the Western world.Bosnia and Herzegovina is a consumer of academic repositories of the Western world, and question is, when our country will be able to create online repositories with open and free access to knowledge? Is it possible to harmonize knowledge commercialization and knowledge as a public good? On this trail the Bosniac Institute - Adil Zulfikarpasic Foundation created digital online platform for storage and dissemination of academic and scholary works of BH authors abroad and foreign authors who wrote papers about Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Academic Portal is repository with free access to the BH academic and scholarly contet abroad.
