Summary/Abstract: XVI volume international puppet festival of Slovak puppet theatres in confrontation with puppet theatre in Middle Europe and chosen world compilations – The international puppet festival in Banská Bystrica was in progress from 3. – 7. 10. 2008 in Banská Bystrica. The head organiser was Puppet theatre on cross – road. On this festival attend 22 compilations – 9 compilation from Slovakia, 6 from Czech republic, 2 Hungary compilations, 3 Polish and external guests (guests apart from Central European region) introduce actual production for children in puppet theatres in France and Italy. Compilations played 25 performances (15 competition and 9 no competition), which saw around 8000 viewers (include participants of the accessory actions of festival). Intro art program system begins two new sections – Young zone, what´s means independent Slovak theatre groups, which came into existence few years ago and projects V4. In the midst of news belong was Discussible forum about themes and exposes of actual puppet theatre for children and young people, internet newspaper Fest. In as existencional recovery of festival informant, which stopped come out since year 2002 and project „Čin and Teen“, which means cooperation with partnership elementary and high schools. The international puppet festival in Banská Bystrica is only one of professional, functional, contest competition of puppet art in present time in Slovak profesional theatre and chosen puppet theatres from Czech republic, Poland, Hungary and many other invite countries in Slovakia. The goal, as organiser declaim in program bulletin, is support development to this individual minority theatre genre and to knot on antecedent traditions of puppet art. The festival is oriented on presentation and confrontation actual forms and exposes puppet art, include puppet´s technic (theatre of puppets, masks, objects, articles, shadows, et cetera), attend as extremely important platform for mutual inspiration, conversations and critic reflection. The theme of that year was relation between history and actual time: Inspiration – Initiation/quotation – interpretation.
