Summary/Abstract: In the 16th century the name of Palemonas appeared in the Lithuanian chronicle and the legend about the patrician Romans who arrived in Lithuania and started here to establish cities, organized a dynastic Roman-Lithuanian state and contributed substantially to the formation of the Lithuanian identity in the 16th century. and later centuries. Later, historic criticism rejected the legend of Palmeon, and it remained at the mercy of romance, embracing the so-called exploratory methodologies, i.e. y positivism. However, for several hundred years Palemonas was a completely historical or at least central figure in all legends originating in Lithuania. Whether Palemonas existed or not, there is no difference, since it has been based on the ideology of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for many centuries, and it is generally characteristic of ideologies to rely on non-acclaimed statements. The Legend of Palemon has once been sufficiently verified for the purpose of finding confirmations in historical accounts and in folk memories.
