Summary/Abstract: Robotics is an emerging technology with a great potential of initiating impactful societal and economic changes. The aim of this article is to identify what are the societal attitudes towards robotics based on available public opinion research. Furthermore, the article pursues to answer the question: is there a need to convey such further research? The article takes into account the issues concerning mutual relationship between society and robotics, as well as potential challenges of this technology. Analyzed qualitative public opinion study shows that despite some advantages, robotics is a technology which rises multidimensional resistance in society. On the other hand, quantitative public opinion study highlights polarization of society. Commencing such research on the early stage of the development of robotics is crucial because of the possibility of observing changes in attitudes among society, before the “black box” becomes closed.
