Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to Yuriy Venelin’s first book The old and today’s Bulgarians in their political, ethnographic, historical and religious relations to the Russians. The article’s object of study is the influence of Slavophile ideas on the scientific observations and conclusions of Yuriy Venelin. Venelin’s first book is analysed as a scientific text of enormous ideological significance for the Bulgarian national revival.
