Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of national elites in preserving and developing the education system in Ukraine in late XX – early XXI century – a period which, on the one hand, characterized the elimination of all obstacles to the development of the educational system, abolition of censorship bans, dismissal from ideological stamps, etc. on the other – the difficulties of transition to market economy caused crisis which affected the most painful situation of education and culture.
