Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes some aspects of the first part of the Rime of Luigi Groto Cieco d’Adria (1541–1585), one of the most interesting poets of the venetian literary mannerism. Through the analysis of the relation between meter and syntax, the author describes similarities and differences between madrigals and sonnets. Madrigals are more based on the search of conceits, while sonnets are characterized by geometric rhetorical artifices. These two different styles are both part of a general rethinking of Petrarchism.
