Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, the efforts to develop the students’ achievements along with their social skills are remarkable. Cooperative learning is an effective approach that serves these efforts. One of the most appropriate courses for the cooperative learning which gives opportunity to the development of both academic achievement and social problem-solving skills is social studies. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of the academic controversy technique implementation and the jigsaw II technique implementation on the students’ academic achievements in social studies and social problem solving skills. 92 students froming two experimental and one control groups participated in the study. "Social Studies Achievement Test" and "The Social Problem Solving Scenarios" were used as a means of data collection. Results showed that, compared with the control group, the highest academic achievement and social problem-solving skills scores were reached in the experimental group of academic controversy technique implementation.
