Summary/Abstract: Employees have a critical role in the development of a business as well as in the sustainability of competitiveness both in service and production sectors. Well-educated, experienced, and qualified employees are the key actors of competition not only among companies but also in other areas extending from local and regional to national and international competition. The crucial role of qualified employees makes it imperative that higher education students be well provided with theoretical knowledge, and supported for internalizing the necessary skills and competencies by integrating their qualities with practice through occupational experience. This profound need has made internship practices an important and compulsory part of the contemporary higher education curricula. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the process of recruitment and training of university students within the context of university-private sector collaboration through internship practices. In this context, an exceptionally successful and promising internship program created through the collaboration between a logistics and maritime transport company and a maritime higher education school has been analyzed as a case study. The overall findings of this analysis reveal that utilizing such collaborative programs would be useful particularly for applied disciplines such as logistics and maritime transport in terms of providing the adequate human resources education and training opportunities for the students. It will also benefit students in terms of recruitment and employability. This study contributes to the relevant literature through recommendations for the development and recruitment of prospective human capital for logistics and maritime transport companies by means of internship programs conducted through industry-university collaborations.
