Summary/Abstract: The authors use their long experience of archaeological excavations to address the issue of social stratification of the population of the Bosporus Tyritake in 4th—6th centuries AD. The analysis of studied structures suggests that the bulk of the population of the city of Bosporus were Greeks, of relatively low wealth majority of them, engaged in fishing and agricultural production, as well as craft and petty trade. It is suggested that the largest urban estates might belong to a small number of social elite of wealthy citizens and church clergy.
