Summary/Abstract: The survey of the respondents from Žemaitija National Park and Kurtuvėnai Regional Park revealed that the knowledge of ethnographical values prevail over the knowledge of nature values. Limitations imposed by regulations of protected territories are known by all inhabitants, mainly from the administration of the parks. Despite of annoying limitations, which interfere with the life of ca. 26% of the respondents, even 80,9% of the sample are positive to nature protection requirements in the territory of the parks. Most popular means of informational support for inhabitants should be TV (79,4%), photo exhibitions (78,0%) and inexpensive books (76,5%). Ecological and other awareness of inhabitants do not depend on the time spent living in the territory, but are significantly higher in the group of well-educated inhabitants.
