Local strategies for global challenges in city logistics

Summary/Abstract: The aim of city logistics is handling of processes within cities and agglomerations. Cities must meet many different challenges. In the city, a local strategy – related to the realization of the needs of a particular city, meets with a strategy of a global character – because some participants in the logistics processes in the cities are corporations operating globally. Freight trains in Dresden, delivery of courier services in Amsterdam and urban logistics support projects in selected cities and countries, using the structures of a globally operating logistics provider – these are examples of activities in which the global service market strategy is tailored to local needs. The main aim for the author is to get knowledge about relations between globalization and local conditions for city logistics solutions.
