An Integral Analysis of Research within the D.A.Tsenov Academy of Economics for the Period 1996-2010

Summary/Abstract: In line with European strategy regarding research, Bulgaria accepts the formulations and the principles for the development of scientific and research activities. The national strategy for research recognizes the specifics and the trends in the potential scientific development of our country and notes as most important linking scientific achievements and practice. In the D.Tsenov Academy of Economics research is concentrated on the need for systematical institutional change via the transformation of its place, role, management structure and financial stimulus mechanisms. Although the changes are institutionally systematic they are also oriented toward the individual researchers and stimulating them, motivation, careers and also young scientists’ development. The strategy offers program balances, which are specific to the Academy, and which also coincide with the contemporary trends in research activities. Some issues related to research development in the framework of the EU and also on a national level are discussed in the paper, as well as the state of research activities at the D.Tsenov Academy of Economics for the period 1996-2010, evaluation indicators for the outlined areas related to design activities and the potential for future improvements in this direction.
