Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to explore the legal reasoning of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the famous González case. The decision implemented a ”right to be forgotten on Internet'' based on a specific reading of Data Protection Directive and certain rights within the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. In a step by step analysis the article reveals that the data protection mechanisms of the Directive were put by the Court at the service of the protection of right to privacy, within a finalist reasoning. Last but not least, the article considers that the future General Data Protection Regulation that will replace the Data Protection Directive will have no impact on the precedent created by Gonzales case.
