Summary/Abstract: Semi-Arid regions are areas where rainfall variability is 25% and over. The fact that rainfall variability is high in these regions has lead drought conditions to be frequently experienced. Primary motivation of this study is to answer the question of how the vegetation reacts to the high variability in the rainfall, in a region bearing Mediterranean climatic characteristics. Within this scope, main purpose of our study, is to determine the response of the vegetation to drought conditions in the Mediterranean Region, by appointing test areas in Kilis which is an area showing semi-arid characteristics. In line with this purpose, Standardized Drought Vegetation Index (SVI) was created using MODIS data. Thus, we analyzed responses of the vegetation to drought conditions in monthly intervals during the period covering the years of 2000-2014. According to findings obtained from SVI analysis, we have seen that vegetative drought has been remarkable in certain months and years.
