Summary/Abstract: Small and medium-sized enterprises are equipped with the dynamic and flexible structures required for local and national growth and rapid industrialization. They can easily adapt to technological changes within the market and market conditions. Small and medium sized enterprises which have limited opportunities are the backbone of the world economy. However, SMEs in our country are faced with various problems such as inadequate financing, absence of a healthy infrastructure, lack of know-how, failure to market their products and inflation. In Turkey, some necessary actions are taken in order to help SMEs overcome these problems and to increase their efficiency within the economy and the industry. In this study, the strengths and weaknesses of SMEs—significant actors in the process of industrialization—are identified and some applicable strategies for better industrialization are recommended.
