Summary/Abstract: Turkish painting began with the return of military engineers who were sent to Europe to study art in the 19th century and produce artworks in western style. This understanding continued with the 20th century and the effects of the art movements that emerged in the modern period did not go beyond the adaptation in the Turkish painting. The understanding of modern art, which develops in parallel with the social, cultural and intellectual structure of the age, carries the traces of the past. On the other hand, the influence of early Turkish painting from the west, has been realized in a superficial plane, lacking all these internal dynamics. Therefore, the issue of originality for Turkish art has become a subject open to debate. However, after the dada movement the unlimited imaginariness that surrealism directs artists emerged under the leadership of Breton have offered the opportunity to Turkish artists who are under the influence of surrealism to turn their own values and have opened the doors of a fantastic world. In this context, the investigation of the effects of surrealism on the art of Turkish painting, which has the traces of psychoanalysis and subconscious and dreams, gives some clues about the origins of fantastic painting in Turkey.
