Economic Crisis and SME Sector in Poland – Economic Dimension

Summary/Abstract: The article covers the subject of SME sector in Poland with the background of economic slowdown resulting from the crisis events which took place in the world economy.The first part of the research analyzed statistical data on the SME sector (the number of enterprises, companies’ survival rate, the level of employment, the volume of income). Annually published reports by the Central Statistical Office entitled ‘Small and medium non-financial enterprises in Poland 2009–2013’ and ‘Creation and operation conditions, development prospects of Polish enterprises established in the years 2009–2013’ were the main sourceof the research material. Statistical analyses were complemented with the research findings conducted by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development the aim of which was to define the attitude of entrepreneurs form the SME sector in the face of the world economic crisis.
