Summary/Abstract: The year 1918 signifies both, the end of World War I and the beginning of state independence in the Eastern part of Europe. This ambivalence concerns different aspects of life, such as political affairs and society, arts and culture, literature, philosophy and religion. The following study discusses and considers chances and challenges of this ambivalence for an ecumenical dialogue in Europe. Therefore, these aspects of life will be analysed concerning the role of memory culture and also concerning the different kinds of remembrance in particular countries. In order to draw benefit from these results for parish oriented (adult) education and for ecumenical projects, theses considerations can be adopted as impulses for particular situations.
