Summary/Abstract: Andy Boyd’s essay entitled Against the Dramaturgy of Punishment – translated by Noémi Krisztina Nagy – discusses how the creator’s and the spectator’s expectations related to the punishment of “evil” shape our dramatic literature. The author considers that the rule attributed to Aristotle’s Poetics is actually not true either for ancient Greek drama, nor for contemporary masterpieces, which all transcend the dichotomy of good and evil. Boyd wonders why we feel the need to punish on stage those who very often get away with their deeds in real life.
