Summary/Abstract: Timber harvesting is performed in the changing natural and production conditions. Wheeled and tracked skidding machines perform multiple runs over one and the samepart of skidding trail. This results in degradation of the forest soils, damage of undergrowth and thereserved timber stand. Studies have been conducted that allow identifying the minimum volume offorest residue that ensures the optimum recovery level of carrying capacity of the skidway. Theadvantage of tracked machinery has been confirmed for working in difficult natural and productionconditions. The initial condition of surface of the transportation ways throughout their entire lengthis practically impossible to restore. For such sections, it is recommended to partially reinforce theskidding trail.
