Summary/Abstract: One of the basic appelations in the Qur’an for mankind is insan. Man is defined as insan in the pages of the Qur’an no fewer than 65 times. There are, it is true, other terms for man: adam, bashar, rajul, ‘imru. The word nafs (soul) is also frequently used in this fifi gurative sense. In this paper the author focuses his attention on the word insan so as to gain an insight into the Qur’anic narrative of man in his accidental attribute.
