THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPORT AND RECREATION INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EU COHESION POLICY – A CASE STUDY OF KUJAWSKO-POMORSKIE VOIVODESHIP

Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at determining the significance of the EU Cohesion Policy implementation for the development of sport and recreation infrastructure, using the example of Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship. The research was conducted on the basis of data concerning the completed EU financial framework 2007–2013. The data were derived from the websites of the Regional Operational Programme for Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. We considered all investments in the sport and recreation infrastructure co-financed from the EU funds. Full database included 6.117 projects implemented within the Cohesion Policy 2007–2013 in Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship but only 227 projects were related to sport and recreation infrastructure. In the paper we have shown that the implementation of the Cohesion Policy and EU funds have significantly contributed to the development of the sport and recreation infrastructure, and thus, have improved the life quality of inhabitants.
