A Study on the Efficacy of Non-Contractual Protection Procedures of Human Rights: 5/1 Procedure in the Context of Eritre Country Case

Summary/Abstract: The protection of human rights at the United Nations level is categorically based on two basic mechanisms including contractual procedures and non-contractual procedures. The basis of the Non-Contractual Protection System is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Charter itself. The Non Contractual Procedures include special procedures, 1235 procedure, 1503 procedure and 5/1 procedure. In this study, the effectiveness of the 1503 method and its developed form, the 5/1 method, is evaluated comparatively through the Eritrean example by taking regional protection systems into consideration.
