A Look at the Culture of the Nakhchivan Region in the Context of the Seyahatname of Evliya Çelebi

Summary/Abstract: Travel books, Ibn-i Batuta and Marco Polo have always been the primary source for cultural research since their first examples. Evliya Çelebi, who is at the top of the tradition of Turkish travelling, has touched many topics in his work, and he has provided rich information on the topics he has mentioned. He presented daily life, cultural life, geographical and political characteristics of places he wandered to his readers in his own style. Evliya Çelebi laid a very lively picture of the cultural life of the Nakhchivan region on the second volume of his work consisting of ten volumes. The work created by Evliya Çelebi can be taken under the scope of an oral history or social history study since it contains deep observations about the local people. The work is well suited to doing cultural readings because it has features such as language and dialect characteristics of the region, vocabulary, formal discourses, mentalphysical characteristics of the people, culinary culture, and economic activities. Because of all these features, Evliya Çelebi's travel book has great importance in terms of Nakhchivan history. For this reason, it is aimed to determine and evaluate the cultural life of the Nakhchivan region in accordance with the travel book of Evliya Çelebi.
