Passages From The Book "History Of The Ottoman Empire" Edited By R. Mantrand

Summary/Abstract: Hereby we present to the readers the excerpts from the fifth and sixth chapter of the book "History of the Ottoman Empire", edited by famous French historian Robert Mantrand (French edition Fayard Paris 1989, Serbian edition Clio Belgrade 2002, translated by Ema Miljković). The above mentioned chapter were written respectively by Jean Louis Bacqe Grammont and Jiles Veinstein. The chosen parts describe the beginning of the rule of the sultan Selim I (1512-1520) as well as the main principles of the Ottoman rule, with a special emphasize on the sultan's palace as the center of power.
