Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the influence of the most important classifications of na- tional cultures on theory and practice of organization. The advantages and deficiencies of quantitative approaches in studying cultures and their reduction on certain dimen- sions have been critically examined. In the article, cultural classification of Hofstede, Trompenaars, Schwartz and Hall have been presented. Key claim of the paper is that above-mentioned classifications have great influence on contemporary theory and practice of organization and management and, because of this fact, we need critical evaluation of their basic assumptions. Cultural factors should not be considered “all-explaining” but the opposite extreme of complete disregard about their influence on organizations must be also avoided.
