Summary/Abstract: Max Lüthi, who published Das Europäische Volksmärchen, Form und Wesen (The European Folktale Form and Nature) in 1947, analyzed the European fairytales in his book through a text based formal approach. This work was met with interest in many places especially in England and America. Lüthi reveals not only the characteristic of tales form with five basic concepts such as “one-dimensionality”, “depthlessness”, “abstract style”, “isolation and universal interconnection” and “sublimation and all-inclusiveness”, but also he makes a definition on the concept of existence explaining the form of peoples’ abilities of relationship based on isolation and concurrence. However, he suggests his own formal method compared Propp’s structural method. In this article, we formally analyze the folktale of Ms. Nardaniye according to Lüthi’s five basic principles. We also made a comprehensive study for the first time to one of the Turkish tales using Lütfi’s approach. In addition, the text of tales and in these texts we see that creatures are reflected as if they were alive in real life. One-dimensionality is associated with superficiality of the presentation in the tale of Ms. Nardaniye. Depthlessness comes into light with an abstract style. The dominant feature of abstract style is seen in the isolation of everything. At the end of the isolation, the elements of the tale are emptied through being sublimated. So the each principle moves in a connection with the next one, and this approach allows the creation of a consistent integrity. The tale of Ms. Nardaniye has almost all the features of stylistically and formally in Lüthi’s above-mentioned five basic approaches, and in terms of text shows a full consistency. This features show that tales have a kind of their own universal character, regardless of where they have been created, though having some differences. In this sense, in particular, the tale of Ms. Nardaniye or in general Turkish tales have universal features and they mirror not only its own society but also the World in general.
