The silence as a communication phenomenon

Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of silence in the interpersonal and social interaction. It is pointed at its three communicative hypostases: 1) silence as behavioral act, 2) silence as a symptom 3) silence as an element of the ritual. The paper dwells on some wide-spread models of interpretation of the notion of silence in social interaction and their manifestation in political discourse.
